Our Pre-K5 program uses developmentally appropriate practices and hands-on approaches to handwriting, math and language, all while still centered on fun and play.

Pre-K5 [Kindergarten Readiness] Program

  • Our Pre-K5 program encourages children to use their curiosity to explore and build their critical thinking skills through The Project Approach.
  • Our Pre-K5 program allows children to build confidence and knowledge before entering Kindergarten.
  • This program is for children who do not meet the cut-off date for kindergarten.

What will a day look like for my PreK5 student?

7:00- 9:00am | Arrival and Free Play 

9:00am | Morning Work and Morning Snack

9:15am | Centers 

10:00am | Circle Time 

10:30am | Centers and Small Groups 

11:30am | Bathroom and Lunch

12:05pm | Playroom and Playground 

12:45pm | Bathroom and Quiet Time Prep

1:00pm | Read Aloud 

1:15pm | Quiet Time 

3:00-5:30pm | Afternoon Snack, Diapers, and Free play

Your PreK5 Student Will Develop In These Domains

What do those skills look like practically?

Social Skills:

The student will be able to:

  •   Wait for a turn/take turns
  •   Share with other children
  •   Interact easily with peers
  •   Use respectful, courteous language and behavior
  •   Sit for age-appropriate circle times
  •   Participate in group times
  •   Answer and ask questions during group times
  •   Respect classroom property
  •   Follow directions
  •   Finish a task or project
  •   Clearly communicate feelings and ideas with peers
  •   Exhibit self-confidence

Fine Motor Skills:

The student will be able to:

  •   Build with blocks and Legos
  •   Put own jacket on and use snaps, buttons, zippers
  •   Hold a crayon or marker correctly
  •   Use correct pencil grip
  •   Hold scissors correctly and cut comfortably with them
  •   Put floor puzzles together
  •   Trace lines with crayon or marker
  •   Draw a stick person with arms and legs and body
  •   Create and participate in craft activities

Reading Readiness:

The student will be able to:

  •   Recognize letters of the alphabet, both upper and lower case
  •   Recall and repeat many letter sounds
  •   Write letters
  •   Write own name correctly
  •   Retell or make up stories
  •   Listen to and discuss a story read to them
  •   Distinguish rhyming words
  •   Name opposite words (up/down, big/small)
  •   Recognize some sight words

Math Readiness:

The student will be able to:

  •   Count to 30
  •   Recognize numbers 1-31
  •   Recognize basic shapes in real-life objects
  •   Recognize simple patterns
  •   Accurately count 10 or more items
  •   Understand comparison words (more than, less than, etc.)
  •   Write some numbers
  •   Write some simple math sentences using addition
