As we enter into a new year, I’m thinking about which voices I’m going to listen to in order to grow as a disciple of Jesus and a leader in His church. In particular, I’m thinking about how I can grow as a leader in VictoryKids.
I picked up Children’s Ministry in the Way of Jesus at Urbana ’15 – you can read more about it here. If you’d like to borrow my copy, just ask! 🙂
I’ve been challenged by the call to ask children deeper questions when we are leading our LifeGroup’s beyond the regurgitation of Biblical facts and values by which Christians live. I’m re-evaluating what questions I’ve been asking our children and starting to ask harder questions. Last week the lesson was “You can have joy because all things are possible with God.” I dared to ask the question to 2nd graders, “How do you have joy when things don’t ‘feel’ like they are possible with God?” Radio silence.
Frankly, I didn’t have a ‘canned’ answer to offer them either. I’ve been challenged by this book to be authentic with children and to allow space for them to be authentic in their faith, doubts, and questions. I’m trusting that whatever rock we un-turn in our LifeGroup, Jesus is bigger and King of the doubts and questions.
Children’s Ministry blog has been super encouraging to my soul (link here). It feels so refreshing to read new ideas and to hear others’ stories. Every article is pithy and succinct which I appreciate.
Staying up to date with our curriculum has been essential for learning how to maximize our use of it and our impact. I’d be dead in the water if I wasn’t following Orange’s (our curriculum company) Facebook group and reading the blog. I can’t believe the scope of how far these resources go – and I can’t wait to get there!

I’m committed to listen to the wisdom people have and I hope my team is too!
