“By this everyone will know that you are My disciples: if you have love for one another.” John 13:35

I would like to briefly share regarding a group of ladies that came to volunteer at Prayer and Love Outreach at the Norristown Transportation Center this past summer. One of our regular volunteers works at a home where women participate in a 12 month Christian recovery program. The van of approximately 6 women showed up bearing snacks and bags of pre-packaged toiletries to give away. They had worked on collecting and packing the items for about 3 months.

The ladies were a bit shy but very happy to be helping.  Many who stopped by were homeless or with a variety of other challenges, mental and physical. During interludes I had the opportunity to speak and pray with several of the ladies, including one staff member. Each one had gone through traumatic experiences.  As the Holy Spirit guided the conversation, they opened up and shared what was weighing on their hearts. I was able to offer comfort, encouragement and pray with them. There were tears, breakthrough, healing and hugs.

One of the gals, Michelle, approached me before they left. She gave me a hug, thanked me and asked if I would be available to guide her spiritually during the remainder of her stay at the program. I readily accepted and we exchanged information. Michelle and I had several great conversations over the next few months. I joyfully anticipate having the ladies join us again.  I look forward to encouraging andspending time with these women. Many are hungry for hope and eager to deepen their relationship with Jesus and grow in knowledge of His Word.

This is a great reminder that those that come out to volunteer benefit from a personal touch that includes drawing them in with care and active listening. Having a person that can minister to them as led by the Holy Spirit will make their experience one that is refreshing, uplifting and lasting. “By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” John 13:35
